Princess Kashmir is Springfield's exotic dancer, introduced on stage as the "queen of the mysterious East". Behind the stage persona hides an entirely ordinary professional: she reveals her real name herself, Shauna Tifton, in her one great episode.
She appears in "Homer's Night Out" (season 1, 1990) — whose French title, "L'Odyssée d'Homer", is deceptively close to that of another episode, "Homer's Odyssey". The episode is written by Jon Vitti, and incidentally marks the first appearance of Carl, Lenny's future inseparable colleague.
The scandal photo
It all starts at a stag party: Homer dances there with Princess Kashmir, and Bart — who came to collect his camera — captures the scene. The picture goes around Springfield.

The tour of Springfield's clubs
To find her, Homer and Bart comb the town's clubs: the Florence of Arabia, the Girlesque, the Foxy Boxing, the Mud City, before reaching the Sapphire Lounge.
On the production side, the sequence took real location work: the Sapphire Lounge is inspired by a real Los Angeles club, and the studio drew more than fifty showgirl costumes for the final scene.
The character Fox censored
The DVD commentary of a later episode revealed the story behind it: Princess Kashmir was originally meant to be an actual stripper. Fox's censors objected — in 1990, the show did not yet have the credit that would later allow it many a daring move.
That is how the character became a belly dancer, softening the episode without changing its point.
Her background career
After her hour of glory, Kashmir becomes a recurring silhouette in the show's club and crowd scenes. Her tastiest cameo remains the one in "Team Homer" (season 7), where she shares a bowling lane with Jacques and Mindy Simmons — the show gathering with a wink the characters who nearly broke up the Simpson marriage.
A delicious adaptation detail: in the French version of her episode, Homer's colleagues sing "Santiano" — Hugues Aufray's famous three-master — instead of the American sea shanty of the original version.
Princess Kashmir's voice actors
In the original version, she is voiced by Maggie Roswell — and it was her very first role in the show, before she became the voice of Maude Flanders, Helen Lovejoy and Miss Hoover. The future most pious voice in Springfield therefore started out… as an exotic dancer.
